Let’s rewind to an unexpected day two summers ago when I ran into Anna at a concert on her birthday. As soon as I spotted her, she excitedly shared the news, Ryan had just proposed on their way to Hope, Alaska! Eeee! I managed to snap a few photos to commemorate the moment before parting ways. Fast forward almost a year, and the day had finally arrived for their adventurous and romantic wedding at Creekbend Cafe!
A Beautiful Small Town
Creekbend Cafe in Alaska is located in a tiny town with a population of just over 100 people. With only one highway in and out, so when there’s an emergency that shuts it down, you’re stuck. And wouldn’t you know it, on the morning of Anna and Ryan’s wedding, the highway was closed for nearly 12 hours due to a serious accident. More than half the guests, including myself, found ourselves stranded on the wrong side with no way to Hope.
The Journey to Anna & Ryan’s Romantic Wedding at Creekbend Cafe
Determined not to miss the special day, I quickly got on the phone, calling everyone I knew with a pilot’s license. In Alaska, those people are a dime a dozen. But the good weather meant they were all out on their own adventures. I finally was able to track down a friend of a friend of a friend who came through with a Husky bush plane. With just 20 minutes to spare before the photo session was set to start, I landed on a small gravel airstrip. A family member of the groom picked me up and delivered me to the campsite where Anna and Ryan were getting ready!
A Celebration to Remember At Creekbend Cafe in Alaska
Despite the highway drama, the wedding was nothing short of magical! As the highway reopened later in the evening, guests arrived just in time for the after-party. The band played a special song for Anna and Ryan’s first dance while we all twirled sparklers around them. Creekbend Cafe went above and beyond letting the couple pour their own beers and keeping the kitchen open late so everyone could enjoy a meal. The venue’s flexibility and warmth made the night unforgettable!
